I've been unhappy for a long time that I have to use a parallel port to connect my x86 box running EMC to the board that drives the milling machine. It looks like we may have a solution coming up soon.

Email Problem Resolved

Well, I just resolved a Charter Communications problem. It seems that my IP address was in a block that was recently listed in Spamhaus' PBL. That means that people using that list would reject my email if it didn't come from Charter's mail server.

Since I use my own mail server, we suddenly started getting a lot of our email bounced. That's not good (to say the least).

Some of the people I spoke to at Charter didn't have a clue about what the problem was or how to deal with people. It took a day; but now it's fixed.

The Spamhaus web page said to send email to postmaster@charter.net. I did that twice, but never received a response. Of course, since my email to other people was bouncing because of the PBL entry, it's possible that the postmaster was just silently discarding email.

Trying To Make This Look Good

Updated the main page to include a photo of me with my wife Laura. I used gimp to crop the original image. Gimp seemed to load very fast on my new server, dual 1.4gHz pentiums with two Gig of RAM. That server is one of six rack mounted machines I bought on ebay for about $150 each. One is a firewall, one my main server, one is for EMC, one will be a telephone system (running trixbox), and the other two will each back up some of the others.

Since I just installed Aether, I thought it might be a good idea to start a blog using it. So, here we go. The last few weeks, I've been working on changes to the Enhanced Machine Controller (EMC). I've added named O-words and the ability to call O-word subroutines from the MDI.
